I've seen similar errors around--I don't think it has to do with glib-1.2.10, but to the presence of another GLIB package around (e.g. in /usr/local),

Also, check the config.log file in the build directory for gtk+ to see if there's info there.

glib 1.2.10 is installed through fink. Is this not compatible with gtk+?
