OK, I may be missing a trick here and if this is explained elsewhere then I apologise, point me in the right direction and I'll go away :)
I want to do an install of Nessus (source distribution) using Fink Commander. I'm told that it has a dependency on nmap and I should install that too. This is a problem as I already installed nmap myself from the source at www.insecure.org as the latest release is 3.48 and Fink only lists 3.46.
What I want to be able to do is tell Fink I have nmap and where it is so it knows this when building dependencies for the Nessus install.
This must be possible... Please?
It isn't. There would have to be a system-nmap placeholder package and there isn't one. It also does not make sense to create one, because it would be easier to update the existing nmap package to the latest version.
Your best bet is to contact the nmap maintainer and ask him to update the Fink package. This shouldn't be too hard if you explain that you already succeeded to compile that version and how you did it.
