That being said, however, try "ifconfig alias" ("man ifconfig"
shows more details on this).  I don't know how to get this
specified in the boot-up files, but you can one-time it with
"ifconfig" and the right command-line arguments.

I'm assuming FreeBSD / Darwin / MacOS X.
