Hi,

I checked this but it was owned by myself.
However, you suggestion did trigger an idea in my head which is deleting all
kde related dirs in my homedir and restarting KDE.
This solved both the font smoothing and the icon trouble for me!

I'm not sure of the transparency thing, but the anti-aliasing problem 
can happen sometimes if your ~/.qt is owned by root (I've not determined 
why this happens, yet...)
