Thanks to you both, but I'm even more puzzled now!
I have Jaguar installed, 10.2.8, and I have Apples X11 beta
3 installed on both machines. I did not know that Apples
X11 beta installed stuff outside of X11R6, /etc/X11,
fonts..., and /Applications/X11...
Any more clues much appreciated,
