Greetings,

I consider myself more of a fink beginner than a "user", but I'm not having luck with my problem on the beginners list, so I thought I'd try here as well.

I am running Panther 10.3.3 and the latest version of fink. I am using Apple's X11.

I compiled and installed Gaim (for example). It runs, but generates a fontconfig error (cannot find default conf file). Someone in IRC told me that it's looking for /etc/fonts/fonts.conf, but I don't even HAVE a fonts directory in my /etc directory! I created one (as root) and copied someone else's fonts.conf file (the person from IRC) there and the error went away.

But all my X apps look like crap. I am stuck with some default monospace font that looks like a lousy variant of Courier. I have font options in my apps, but when I change them, they never "stick".

How can I fix this? What more information can I provide to help you help me solve this?

Thanks,
...ROMeyn
