After doing an update-all on fink, I get the following message:

You have an existing X11 installation in /usr/X11R6 and/or /etc/X11.
This package refuses to overwrite these. Remove them, then tell Fink to
install xfree86 again. (The package won't be recompiled.) If you want
to keep your X11 installation, install system-xfree86 resp. system-xtools
instead to make this known to Fink's package system.

If I understand this correct, it's telling me that if I wish to keep X11 installed as it is (which is what I do want), then I need to install system-xfree86 and system-xtools, respectively, in place of xfree86. However, a fink install system-xfree86 or system-xtools produces:
No packages to install.

So, what is it that I need to do?

Once again, we are bit by the out-of-date error message.

You don't want system-xtools in any case. System-xfree86 is now a virtual package.

You didn't specify your OS version, Fink version, or X11 version, but my first suggestion is to consult
