I'm new to this list, but I've been using fink for a while. Excellent project! Bravo!!
I finally got sick of iChat and decided to switch to gaim, my old favorite IM client from my linux days.
The main trouble I'm having is with the sound. I noticed when searching the archives that there are a couple of people with the same problem I'm having, so I wanted to see if we could get some discussion going. I have a couple of (rather unsatisfactory) solutions.
Problem: sound won't play.
I tried using the "Automatic" method. I get the error:
ao_macosx_open: Only support 44.1kHz right now *** malloc[9564]: Deallocation of a pointer not malloced: 0xda; This could be a double free(), or free() called with the middle of an allocated block; Try setting environment variable MallocHelp to see tools to help debug
this seems to indicate that the gaim sound files are in some other sample rate than 44.1kHz. Undaunted, i tried installing the esound package and choosing ESD as my method. In this case, I hear nothing. Ditto with arts. Finally, I tried using a command-line sound player (sndplay) with the "command option," which works, but suffers from a 1-second latency between something happening and it's corresponding sound.
Any gaim users out there have this working? Ideas?
Thanks,
Bryan
