This indicates that you have one of Fink's perl packages installed
(perl560 or perl580), and this configure script is finding and using that
one instead of the built-in perl 5.8.1.  

You either need to install the corresponding xml-parser-pm560 or 
xml-parser-pm580, or remove the fink perl package so that the configure
script finds the built-in one.
