The Fink (<http://fink.sf.net>) packages are now available for subversion 1.0.2:

To get the latest package descriptions type 'fink selfupdate'.

To use the client: 'fink install svn-client-ssl'
To use the stand-alone server: 'fink install svn-ssl'
To use the apache server: 'fink install libapache2-ssl-mod-svn'
To use the cvs2svn conversion tool: 'fink install cvs2svn'

What is svn, please, and what are its advantages over cvs/r...?

Subversion (SVN) is supposed to the the successor for cvs. To cite

<http://subversion.tigris.org> :

"The goal of the Subversion project is to build a version control system that is a compelling replacement for CVS in the open source community."

So it is basically cvs without the shortcommings of cvs. Read the homepage above for the main differences between cvs and svn and the FAQ at

<http://subversion.tigris.org/project_faq.html>

for more information. Or read the book at

<http://svnbook.red-bean.com/>

Hope that helps, Chris.
