when I try to compile gaim I get the output below. It looks like the yahoo protocol is failing, is there some way to remove it from the configuration so it isnt compiled or is there another way I can get gaim to work. I have a iMac G3 600/256 with 10.3.3 and fink;
Well for starters, you should use the Unstable branch and install the latest version of Gaim from there. Yahoo doesnt even work in any version before 0.75 (I think thats when it was changed).
The only way you can make it compile with specific protocols is to download the source and configure it manually.
If you have all the dependencies, like GTK+2 and such installed already via Fink, just make sure the Fink directories are in your Path and compile it from Gaim's own source. Its compiled just fine on its own without Fink since 0.74 or so as well.
