Now that you mention it, I have seen it on my system, too, but didn't think anything of it (since I use apt-get so rarely on this machine). I just tried it again, and apt-get downloaded and installed 117 packages (luckily not tetex-texmf, and my xfree86 is only in unstable, or I'd be here all day waiting for everything to unpack). Then it made me do another 37 packages, but after that, nothing more got downloaded/installed.
It is clear that there is something wrong with the communication between fink (represented by dpkg) and apt-get. Apparently apt-get does not accept some packages as up-to-date that it hasn't installed itself. In Kim's case it is worse, because there it doesn't even accept its own installed package. Kim, maybe if you remove type1inst completely and then reinstall it?
sudo dpkg --purge --force-all type1inst sudo apt-get install type1inst
Or did you try this already?
What I find strange is that if one looks at apt-get's idea of the package descriptions with apt-cache show:
apt-cache show type1inst
one sees several versions of the package, or sometimes the same version several times, and what I find disturbing is that the format of the entries is not the same. So it might be that dpkg and apt-get write the package descriptions with different formats into this database, and apt-get does not completely understand the format used by dpkg.
dpkg -p type1inst
seems to show one of the entries that apt-cache shows also. apt-get seems to mix its database together from several sources and has sometimes difficulties to digest this mix.
Not very clear yet. Maybe someone else has a deeper insight into these things.
