That's the out-of date version. You need to remove it with "sudo dpkg --remove --force-all system-xfree86".

Once you've done that, run "fink list" and see if you now have system-xfree86 and system-xfree86-shlibs (and system-xfree86-dev if you installed the X11SDK package.) The version will be something like 2:4.3-1.

It seems like I have version 4.2-11 for system-xfree86, but I am not sure how to change that. I tried fink update, but it did not do anything, and fink install system-xfree86-shlibs did not work, claiming:

Failed: no matching version found for system-xfree86

  Any ideas?

  Thanks for the help,
  Marcus

I have upgraded from 10.2 to 10.3 recently. Once I updated fink (by running the Perl script to change OS versions, and running fink selfupdate) and ran fink update-all, whenever fink tries to update tetex, it chokes because tetex requires xfree86-shlibs and that conflicts with the system-xfree86 place holder that I have for the Mac OS X pre-installed X11.

Why does tetex all of a sudden require non-Apple X11 ?? Is there a work around? Did I miss something in the upgrade step?

  Any help is greatly appreciated.

What version of system-xfree86 do you have (fink list -i system-xfree86)? I would suspect that you aren't using the new virtual package, which also provides system-xfree86-shlibs.
