hi there!

i just wanted to install fink on my powerbook, but readme says:

* Do not use this installer if you have MacGIMP or OpenOSX.com’s GIMP
package installed.

i don't know if what i've installed is called MacGIMP.
i got it from http://gimp-app.sourceforge.net/

will i be able to install fink now?
or should i better remove gimp.app and install it afterwards via fink?

There should be no problem. Gimp-app is a derivative of Fink, too, like the others, but unlike the others used to do (I don't know if they still do this), it does not pollute your machine outside of the application bundle itself. Those others used to install things into /sw, and installing Fink on top of them would break them.

Gimp-app puts its libraries, which are copied from Fink, inside its application bundle, so they should not interfere with anything outside of it.

If you really like open source, you might prefer Fink's version of gimp2, although it is not as nicely wrapped up as gimp-app. The latter pretends to be open source, too (as it must, being based on GPL-licensed software), but in reality it does not distribute the sources from which it is built. This is antisocial behavior, bordering on the illegal.
