Only thing i can think of is if you're using the configuration suggested by 'fink info bundle-kde', then look for strange error messages in /tmp/kde.log. I've not seen the behavior you're describing, and it's really too vague to have any idea how to fix it.
When did it become no longer functional? Did you change any software on your machine? Did you do an update-all? What versions of things did you have installed before/after this change.
