Hi all!
So far I have never printed output of gv, etc, but just looked at screen or printed them after ported to aqua. How can I set up printers directly in /sw ?
I don't quite know what you mean by "set up printers directly in /sw". You set up your printers in Mac OSX with the tools you have there, Printer Setup Utility or the web or command line interfaces for CUPS. Then you have to configure your applications so that they use this printer setup.
In gv, for example, you do this via a printer command line that appears when you hit the print button. The default is "lpr", and this sends your file to the default printer that you have chosen in the Printer Setup Utility. Note that in Panther you can print postscript files with lpr even to non-postscript printers. If you don't want to use the default printer, change your command line, see "man lpr" or "man lp" for options.
Other applications that are linked to the CUPS libraries may have GUI printer interfaces similar to the native quartz interface, scribus or gimp2 have such printer setup windows with lots of options, for example.
