you _need_ to set EnablePAM yes in your sshd_config. Otherwise the SSHD will not let you login. I am working on an updated SSHd, I have it running locally just need to submit it to Max.

PS: yes I know that this particular config option is deprecated.
Is there any reason not to have the file automatically edited (i.e. by the Fink build process) so that it works "out of the box"?
