I previously reported that the mouse freezes sporadically in KDE.

I've since discovered that it's caused by the eSound daemon. The freezing doesn't occur when leaving sound enabled with auto-detect on. Specifically selecting eSound almost immediately causes a freeze. Auto-detect doesn't work though. I get a "Information Arts Message" during startup saying 'Error initializing the sound driver, couldn't auto detect which audio I/O method to use.'

I tried rebuilding eSound but that didn't help.
