Drat, I have a freetype sort of error with the latest mozilla (below, it's rather long...) 1.7.2-1 is installed and working fine, but I installed Xorg (in place of XFree864.4) since installing 1.7.2-1, so that may be the cause of the problem?

This is a known issue between Mozilla (and Firefox) and Xorg. The next version of Mozilla (1.8a6 if a Fink package is made for it) will have it fixed. FF1.0 already has a patch in the pipeline.

What you can try to do is add the following line (note the leading + sign)

+ac_add_options --disable-freetype2

to the file "/sw/fink/10.3/unstable/crypto/finkinfo/mozilla.patch" right after the line that says "+ac_add_options --enable-xft".

I can't verify to see if this actually works, but it _should_.

It does work, at least for me, and it works for firefox too. (I didn't try firefox without that line in the patch file.)

Easier than Alex's fix of swapping xorg for xfree86-4.4 since I don't have a vanilla xorg install (I'm running the xdarwin app from xfree86-4.4 over it because I couldn't figure out how to get a # symbol with a UK keyboard under the xorg version).

Many thanks!
