Sorry, fink assumes that you have the Apple-installed perl.  I hope you 
didn't overwrite that with your custom install!  If you did a custom
install into /usr/local, you should be able to move the /usr/local
directory out of the way and compile fink using the system's perl.

Unfortunately, many perl modules require version-dependent fink packages,
and maintaining these for all possible perl versions is beyond the
capabilities of the fink team.  I will give you a hint, though: perl 5.8.6
has been released, and you can expect to see a bunch of perl 5.8.6 packages
in fink in the near future.
