In writing the new gtk+2 packages that I hope to submit to fink the first time I built them using fink I had worked out all the problems, but this time it hangs on pango, and fails with an error that looks like the problem I had when I originally built them on my own. And I realized that when I built them with Fink before I had already upgraded my XDarwin installation with new render, xrender, xft-2, freetype2, and font-config, packages. And when I originally built them on my own I read something about there being a problem with the font-config being really outdated when released with the XFree86 4.4.0 release, and that's what would cause a problem with the pango-1.8.0 release. Now I can do the upgrades again on my own, that's no problem, but would I have to create somekind of patch or a package for a newer font-config for Fink for other users?

Ummm...it would have been helpful if you'd actually provided the error message.

You would indeed need to create something--possibly a new package

And this level of discussion is probably better suited for fink-devel, as it's somewhat advanced.
