Ben, you forgot as I did, the little episode on February 7 or so when there existed for a very brief period a Fink cctools-gcc4 package (look at the cvs logs) which invited people to download and install a cctools-528 dmg from Apple (from od I guess). Some unfortunate people tried this. They got the broken ld that we have been seeing elsewhere.
