That command option is called "--use-binary-dist" or "-b" for short. The version you are trying to install exists in the binary distribution, so you can install it either with "fink -b" or with "sudo apt-get" or by using FinkCommander.
OTOH, the fact that you get this error hints at some other problem with your configuration. I don't understand why it didn't start compiling the thing after it downloaded the sources.
