I have been getting this error for some time now.
I worked around it by adding --disable-ipv6 in the python22.info file as ./configure suggests.

This is weird. What's with "getaddrinfo()"? That's part of the base system and it should be just fine. Certainly everything using it is running fine (i.e. the entire rest of my system).

I got the same error, but managed to build it eventually without having done anything special. One of the developers has expressed the opinion that this is a strange, intermittent issue.
