Ok.  Turns out my theory is correct; you need to build transfig 3.2.4
with gcc 3.1.  So, make sure that you've installed GCC 3.1 (IIRC, it's
an optional component of XCode), then do

    sudo gcc_select 3
    sudo fink rebuild transfig
    sudo gcc_select 3.3

I've CCd the maintainer, in hopes that he'll tweak the package
accordingly.
