Actually, Alex Strange did that on this very list soon after he made 2.2.6 available to the unstable tree.

He also did note that he brought 2.0.6 back as a separate package, 2.0.6default. The point may be having a more standard way of communicating these changes. For reasons that Alex Hanson cited, I agree that we need to cut maintainers some slack because they have day jobs.

But, really, contact the maintainers directly. They are unbelievably helpful.
