Is this a problem with the setup of xauth? I seem to recall having a problem on FreeBSD on first upgrading to XFree86 4, where only root owned processes could connect to the Xserver, could this be a similar issue? Of course if this were the issue then I don't know why it would be that:
What is curious that KDE does come up 2 times today atabsloutely out of blue
I know very little about how x authorisation works, but I'm sure that there are some knowledgeable people on the list who do ;-) and who might be able to say whether or not this idea is completely off track. Any takers?
There is certainly a font issue here as well of course, /usr/X11R6/ lib/X11/fonts/CID should exist, and contain valid fonts.
If no other answer is forth coming, I would suggest that you try (very carefully) manually deleting (using /Library/Receipts/X11.pkg as a guide) and then reinstalling Apple's X11 and X11SDK packages, as this looks to be a problem with their install, and not with KDE's.
Good luck,
Daniel.
