I am running Panther, 10.3.5.
I recently successfully (after a little work) ran the self-update on Fink,
and updated everything else, prior to trying to install kxmleditor.
I used fink commander to install kxmleditor (and I've used this to install
everything I've installed with fink). I usually choose to install from
binary (as I haven't installed anything from source, ever).
I since tried to "update" the package, and had this result:
Err file: unstable/main Packages
File not found
Ign file: unstable/main Release
Failed to fetch
found
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done

That's because you're installing the same files over and over. If there's a problem within the binary distribution, this method, unfortunately, won't cure it. I've cc'ed the KDE maintainer (rather than the kxmleditor maintainer since the error appears to be from a library in kdebase3-shlibs.
