Jeff, that's great. I realise now that I should have paid more attention to the lines like

Checking if your kit is complete...
  Looks good
Note (probably harmless): No library found for -llcms
Note (probably harmless): No library found for -ltiff
Note (probably harmless): No library found for -lpng

there was one for -ljpeg, not there after installing the lib, so I found and installed the cms, tiff and png libs, recompiled again and - success!

Thanks very much for your help.

For anyone else trying to get ImageMagick and PerlMagick installed and working, this page was a great help:

Cheers
Peter

Peter--

Fink has better dependency information than DarwinPorts, but it's not
perfect. You might want to check and make sure that libjpeg is
installed ("fink list libjpeg", and if there's an i on the left it
means it's installed). If it's not installed, install it and then try
your compile again. Let us know what you find.

Hello Jeff, thanks for your reply.

I first installed DarwinPort ImageMagick but it then seemed that the
CPAN version of PerlMagick wouldn't compile with this, so I
uninstalled it, installed Fink, then ImageMagick then followed advice
on the web to edit the lib and inc files for a Mac setup (re paths).

Maybe relevant (or not) is that I installed ImageMagick.nox.

As far as I know the release is stable.

Thanks
Peter

Looks like either Perl, perlmagick, or imagemagick was not linked to
libjpeg during compile. Are you using Fink stable or unstable?
