Yesterday, as fink was building the newest openoffice.org package
yesterday, my laptop sent me a warning that my 80GB hard drive was
almost full, and that I needed to remove files. I scurried around and
managed to remove a few GB, but no use: fink inexorably continued to
build subpackage after subpackage, and soon thereafter, the install
process crashed with a disk full error. If I remember correctly, the
directory /sw/src/fink.build/openoffice.org-1.9m113-2/ contained > 50
GB of files at that point.
To summarize my subsequent investigation as briefly as possible, I
perceive that openoffice.org contains 45 language packages as well as
the main package; that building openoffice seems to include building
all of the language packages regardless of how many the user actually
requests (in my case, 1); and that this accounts for a substantial
portion of the build process's very considerable disk-space
requirements.
Is there any way to configure a less space-consuming build?
Specifically, how about a build that only involves language packages
that the user specifically requests (possibly over a period of time
rather than all at once)?
