Specific problem->specific solution. These symptoms you describe are
quite different from the markup-tests situation.
This problem has been observed and discussed on the lists many times,
without apparently any reasonable explanation nor solution. Maybe Max'
and your additional insight about the inner workings of this
localization stuff could help here, too? What is weird in this problem
is that intltool-merge is a perl script and it is /usr/bin/perl that is
throwing the bus error.
