Probably related to the following entry from the fink ChangeLog:

2005-04-25 Dave Vasilevsky <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
        * PkgVersion.pm: What the fark is ccc? oops!

and the following from the CVS log for PkgVersion.pm:

revision 1.400
date: 2005/04/26 14:09:50; author: dmrrsn; state: Exp; lines: +0 -21
reverting vasi's path-prefix change of 4/25: we don't want to force a
default gcc after all

The ccc and gcc entries are much older, and not in the dpkg database. I'll mvoe them out of the way and try again.

Since these files are created on the fly and are not part of the fink filelist, they don't get removed when a new version is installed. Bad luck for the fink HEAD faithful.

And moving the April files out of the way did indeed solve the problem.

The gcc file contains a command to run gcc-3.3. So this solves also the earlier rosegarden mystery.
