Hello,

I just updated the xpdf package to 3.00-16 (on MacOS 10.3.9,
unstable), also libpaper1.

Everything is almost ok, but I get an annoying error, no matter
whether I use xpdf, pdfinfo, or pdffonts:

Error: No paper information available - using defaults

As an aside: even setting errQuiet to yes in ~/.xpdfrc is able to
shut it up.

But something is wrong because:

$ pdfinfo test.pdf
Error: No paper information available - using defaults
[...]
Page size:      396.85 x 595.276 pts
[...]

so it actually /has/ the information and AFAICS uses it for
displaying, but still I'd like to get rid of the spurious error
message.

Might be connected to libpaper?

Christian:

set the PAPERSIZE environment variable to the paper size you want (i.e. 'letter' or 'a4') and the message will go away.
