Check out http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-general.php#compile-myself
.  This has a list of environment variables to set.  You may also want
to consult the Fink mplayer.info file, to see if Fink has had to set
anything to get the package to build--that way you can just set the
same environment variable(s).
