It appears that Fink, via Fink Commander, is looking for the files in
the wrong place, e.g.: Failed to fetch
http://fink.opendarwin.org/bbraun/./unstable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc/
/base/libgettextpo2 shlibs_0.14.5-1_darwin-powerpc.deb 404 Not Found

This non-existent URL is composed from two sources: The first half comes from your sources.list file and the second, starting here with "./unstable", comes from a "Packages" file downloaded when you did "apt-get upgrade". It is this latter file that is wrong, probably because of the way how bbraun ran his scanpackages. One possible hack you could try would be to change the "./unstable" to "10.4-transitional/unstable" in the copy of these "Packages" files on your harddisk. The files in question are at /sw/var/lib/apt/lists/fink.opendarwin.org_*_Packages. You could run a sed or perl script on these and change "Filename: ./" to "Filename: 10.4-transitional/". If you don't understand what I am talking about, you should probably not try to use this unofficial bindist.
