Good news - I can now build fontconfig2 and go on to build gimp2.

I don't see an updated version of fontconfig2:

The latest 10.3 version is still 2.2.3-2. I guess that your fix wasn't in
fontconfig2.
As for building gimp2, I tried:
fink selfupdate
fink install gimp2
And it all worked. Thanks!
