Can you perform a filesystem check on the disc image files using Apple's Disk Utility?

Probably the .dmg files have been damaged. Do they have approximately the correct size? Did you download them from Apple's site or install them from a CD?

I downloaded the files from Apple's site. The current problem file is the XcodeTools1.5 disk image. I'm not sure if I used fsck properly below....

I ran fsck with:

$ fsck /Users/rgrtw/Applications/Installers/devTools/XcodeTools1.5__CD.dmg
/Users/rgrtw/Applications/Installers/devTools/XcodeTools1.5__CD.dmg is not a character device
CONTINUE? [yn] y

and got this:

** /Users/rgrtw/Applications/Installers/devTools/XcodeTools1.5__CD.dmg
BAD SUPER BLOCK: MAGIC NUMBER WRONG
ioctl (GCINFO): Inappropriate ioctl for device
fsck: /Users/rgrtw/Applications/Installers/devTools/XcodeTools1.5__CD.dmg: can't read disk label

I don't know if this is correct usage of fsck for a disk image.

I do know that I can't install the November 2004 gcc updater without Xcode 1.5 being installed.

Thanks,
Robert
