Works here.  Maybe try doing a "sudo apt-get update" first.

It's worth a look.  deselect is known not to work properly with some
terminal settings.  Try

setenv TERM=xterm-color

(assuming you're using tcsh) and see if that helps--this does allow
dselect to work.
