Scribus 1.3.1-2

Spent 12/31/05 going through the scibus tutorial at http:// docs.scribus.net/ Tutorial referenced an earlier version, but I was able to produce a document which duplicated the sample presented in the tutorial.

I decided to apply my newly-learned "skills" to produce a template for a newsletter. Layer 1 had 2 graphics and border lines. Layer 2 had a text area with basic header information.

Layer three was supposed to be a text area with two columns. There seemed to be a problem defining the columns; I tried everything I could think of, including going back to the tutorial and duplicating the steps given there. I decided it would be good to take a break so I saved the document and quit Scribus.

Later, when I went back and attempted to open the document, Scribus quit with a kern protection failure error. When I started Scribus up again and tried creating a new document with the default settings, XDarwin quit with a kern invalid address error. Scribus appears to load as usual (the "New Document" window appears)

The two error reports are shown below; I don't know what to make of them.

Other XDarwin apps appear to work as expected- e.g., XEphem, Gnumeric, Gimp (although I didn't try it extensively).

I have tried repairing permissions, single-user boot w/ fsck, reinstalling Scribus, rm -r the ~/.scribus directory, reinstalling xorg all with out success.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
