It seems that octave-forge is reading from its own incomplete installed version. Maybe you want to remove octave-forge first before rebuilding it?

OK...I removed octave-forge, then issued a rebuild command. It rebuilt without those errors in the configure stage. Then, since rebuild doesn't install, I clicked the "binary install" button in FinkCommander and got:

Failed to fetch file:/sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc//sci/octave-forge_2005.06.13-2_darwin-powerpc.deb Size mismatch E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing? 0 packages upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded. Need to get 0B/25.9MB of archives. After unpacking 136MB will be used.

Running scanpackages didn't change anything, but maybe that wasn't the right thing to try here??? So, I selected the "install from source" button and it installed without complaint, but is still short on some of its files, same output from du -k as before.

I was a bit doubtful whether this would help, because on a more careful look, those errors seem to be just octave itself complaining about whatever is wrong, and the octave-forge build still gets the info it needs (like the version of octave).

I have now set octave itself rebuilding. There are no errors in the configure stage, only one warning:

configure: WARNING: I didn't find runtest -- install DejaGNU if you want to run `make check'

but it will take a while to complete...
