I dug myself a hole, and needed the qt3 libraries as compiled by gcc4. So I edited the GCC: tag, and the Depends: gcc... in the .info file, changed a couple places in the .patch file that referenced gcc and g++, and had fink rebuild qt3-3.3.5.

It seems to have worked.

Aside from the fact that I have a deb file that doesn't match the one that fink would create from scratch, what other traps have I set for myself?

If you do the same with anything that depends on qt3, you have good chances that there will be no problem at all. In fact, there are many packages that are ready for g++4 and have been for a long time (the hot period for fixing g++3 vs g++4 problems was about a year ago). They are tied down by compatibility and upgrading issues; not for very long, hopefully.

There used to be some concern with respect to compatibility with some system libraries, for example the OpenGL framework and corresponding X11 libs, because the system used to be compiled with gcc-3.3, but I doubt that this is still true nowadays.
