It's pretty neutral whether it's there or not, actually.  It doesn't
interfere with anything and has a stash of .deb files in case you have
problems, but does take up space (and you won't be able to revert to
some of the older revisions of packages without causing breakage).

I'd say only remove it once you've verified that /sw/fink/dists points
to /sw/fink/10.4-transitional .
