I hope this is the right place to ask this.  If not, please direct me and I'll go away! :)

I tried installing gnome for my x11 installation, but had many problems with the stable release since there isn't an umbrella package "bundle-gnome" like there is in unstable.  And some of the packages didn't want to update or compile (libgnomecanvas2, for instance).

So, I went with KDE instead, and the stable install of it is working VERY well so far.  However, I have a question about getting sound working.  When I launch x11 and the desktop for KDE appears, there is a notice that the sound system can't be started and so it will direct everything to a null device.

I've tried using the control center to change the sound settings, but nothing is seeming to make it work.  Is there something I'm not seeing or doing?
