I second this. I am often explaining how to install Fink in order to get 
a package that exists only in unstable. The not very satisfactory 
explanation is
1. Install Fink from the binary installer
2. Enable unstable (read the Fink FAQ how to do this)
3. Run "fink selfupdate"

There should be a possibility to enable unstable that doesn't involve 
manually editing config files. A flag for "fink selfupdate" would be 
useful, something like

  fink selfupdate --enable-unstable

Or another question after the first "selfupdate", in addition to the 
question about the choice between point updates / cvs / rsync.

A corresponding button in the binary installer would be nice, too.
