It appears that you're on OS 10.4.9 or later, and trying to install a 
fink that is too old to work with it.  Check out 
http://www.finkproject.org under the heading "2006-07-24: Reminder: 
"10.4-transitional" Tree Unsupported on August 1st, 2006".
