I cooked up a local system-tetex placeholder that I placed in
/sw/fink/10.4/local/.

But! that's the easy part. The problem is with the kpathsea
libraries that other packages depend on, and which are *not* part
of texlive. I compiled these by hand and put them into
/usr/local. Definitely not everybody's cup of tea.
