I updated 10.4 to 10.5 (I did not archive and install) successfully
and installed XTools3.0. When I launched XDarwin (using xorg), KDE
came up but the fonts were screwed up - I only had a box outline for
each character. I checked /etc/fonts and the fonts.conf and fonts.dtd
files were now fonts.conf.bak and fonts.dtd.bak, so I restored them w/
o the .bak. No go. I then rebuilt xorg and xorg-shlibs (I had not yet
issued the fink reinstall fink command). No go. Then I reinstalled
fink and found out that 10.5 does not support xorg, so I installed
Apple's X11. Interestingly, when I originally updated, the Leopard
DVD installed /usr/X11 with usr/X11/: include, lib and man directories
even though I did not ask the installer to install X11. When I
installed Apple's X11, I manually installed the X11 and X11SDK
packages, and I got everything.
I can run X11 with quartz-wm, windowmaker, and icewm, but I can not
run the KDE window manager. Under windowmaker with quartz-wm --only-
proxy & set in my .xinitrc file, I can launch the individual KDE apps
and XEmacs. However, KDE with the following set in .xinitrc:
export KDEWM=kwin
exec /sw/bin/startkde >/tmp/kde.log 2>&1
will not run. I have xterm and rxvt windows come up in rootless mode
with no borders yet as usual, and the KDE tooltip logo comes up next
to the cursor and then I get the following two messages as crash
dialogs:
1. The application ksplash quit unexpectedly. There is a long crash
report in dialog that I can not copy.
2. The application kdeinit quit unexpectedly. Again with with long
crash message.
After the crash message come up Apple's X11 crashes.
Obviously, both the kde splash screen and kdeinit crashed. Does
anyone have any suggestions?
XTools3.0 appears to be working properly as I am able to build new
packages with fink without any problems. My kit is:
iMac G5
Package manager version: 0.27.7-41
Distribution version: 0.8.1.rsync powerpc
powerpc-apple-darwin9-gcc-4.0.1 (GCC) 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5465)
OSX 10.5
XTools3.0
