Maybe I am overlooking something, but why do you need ATLAS on 10.5? Both BLAS and Lapack libraries (which I think is what ATLAS provides) are present in /usr/lib since 10.4 (Intel). They were missing on 10.4 PPC, so I filled out a radar about a year ago; Apple sent me an email a few days ago saying that this was fixed in 10.5, but I haven't checked.
