I did review the config.log again and found the following:
configure:1958: gcc -I/sw/bootstrap/include -I/sw/bootstrap/include
-L/sw/bootstrap/lib conftest.c >&5
/usr/libexec/gcc/i686-apple-darwin8/4.0.1/ld: can't locate file for:
-lgcc_s.10.5
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
