You would get the same error with Fink's freetype219 package. It seems 
wxgtk depends on ancient (pre-219) features of freetype2. It will either 
have to be patched to work with newer freetype2 (perhaps difficult, 
because wxgtk is ancient, too), or it will have to depend on Fink's 
freetype2 (not 219) package and be patched to use this instead of the 
one in X11. Fink's freetype2 is probably of sufficient antiquity to make 
this work.

We may need to watch out for other packages that are using the freetype2 
that comes with X11 and are expecting it to be an old version.
